With so many options, how do you choose the right real estate agent to work with?
Unfortunately, many people choose a real estate professional based on the assumption that all agents are the same and offer the same level of service or expertise.

Here’s a list of 7 questions you can ask to evaluate real estate agents (and help you avoid that common mistake):

  1. Before you talk with a real estate agent, Google them. Research each search result that shows up to get a sense of how they represent themselves online.
  2. Ask them about the local real estate market and listen for expertise. Are they dancing around the question or do they have hard facts and stats?
  3. Ask them about what they know about the type of home you’re interested in buying. Again, listen for market knowledge and expertise.
  4. If meeting an agent to sell your house, ask them what your home is worth. They should already know, based on market activity and the condition of your home, what the sales price should be.
  5. Ask them about their negotiation style. You want someone who has highly refined negotiation skills. A skilled agent seeks to understand all the concerns involved and make sure you they work to address them.
  6. Look for competence in how they conduct themselves. A competent real estate agent will guide you and be someone you can consider a trusted advisor.
  7. Do you trust their character? You want someone who will put your interests above their own. If conflicts are encountered during the deal, you want to know they have your concerns at heart and at the forefront of all their decisions.
